Microdermabrasion
What is microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion is an intense exfoliation process that rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine purified crystals to remove the upper layer of the skin. At the same time, the hand piece of the machine contains a vacuum tube that that sweeps up both the crystals and dead skin cells. This process exfoliates the skin, stimulating the production of collagen which results in a firmer, smoother and more youthful looking skin. For gentler skin, a crystal-free treatment option is employed using a diamond tip that loosens the layers of dead skin cells that form on the surface and dull the skin’s appearance. What does microdermabrasion treat? Microdermabrasion helps to diminish fine lines and discoloration while refining skin texture and hue. It improves acne prone skin, mild acne scarring, uneven skin texture, sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation and melasma (the mask of pregnancy). For best results, a series of treatments are recommended. What can I expect from the treatment? Depending on the area treated, you will notice an immediate improvement in the skin’s appearance. Most patients report that their skin is softer and smoother after their first treatment. Acne scars, fine lines and discoloration are reported to be diminished after the patient’s third or fourth treatment. How often can microdermabrasion be performed? Every 7-10 days is the minimum amount of time between treatments. We recommend a minimum of two weeks between treatments. Who performs the procedure and how long does it take? Our licensed aesthetician performs this “no downtime” procedure in about one hour. Importantly, microdermabrasion can be performed almost anywhere on the body and is safe for all skin types.
